5 EASY WAYS TO MAKE YOUR HOME FEEL LIKE FALL

Happy October, friends! Despite the fact that it’s supposed to hit 90 degrees here in Northern Virginia today, I have fall on the brain. Fall is my favorite season – football is back, the trees outside are turning the prettiest shades of orange and yellow, and everything just feels cozier. However, it can be a little harder to get into the fall spirit when the temperature is above 80 well into October. So I thought I’d share some easy tips on how to make your home feel like fall (even when it doesn’t feel like it outside). Read on to learn how you can inject some autumn feels into your home without making it look like Halloween threw up – and to see my subtle fall decor picks!

1. Add some warmth and texture with new throw pillows.

Switching out your throw pillows in favor of some with warmer hues and thicker textures is one of the easiest (and cheapest) ways to instantly make your home feel more like fall. Don’t worry, I’m not talking orange plaid pillows with pumpkins or canvas ones splattered with the word “gather.” But some copper-hued pillows and velvet or woven textures can add a subtle fall feel to any space with very little effort or cost. The throw pillows and cushion covers I’ve linked below all have great colors and textures, and they’re all under $25. I love the idea of adding some burnt orange and woven textures to bring in some warmth!

2. Trade your normal plants & greenery for some seasonal picks.

Another cost effective and simple way to make your space ready for the fall season is to switch out your typical plants or greenery for a seasonal version. There are tons of inexpensive (we’re talking less than 10 bucks) options that will instantly add the warmth that really makes a home feel like autumn. I’m all about the subtle hints of fall – deep purples and burnt oranges still feel like fall, but without the garish brightness of bright yellows and oranges. The products I’ve included below are mostly faux, but when in doubt, Trader Joe’s has amazing live seasonal bouquets as well as tons of different types of greenery.

3. Surround yourself with cozy textiles.

Fall is all about coziness, and the easiest way to up the cozy factor of any space is to bring in some cozy textiles. Darian and I love throw blankets year round – we keep at least 6 in the living room at all times and pretty much want to be wrapped in them 24/7. But even if you aren’t a throw blanket aficionado like us, I guarantee that you’ll feel a million times more ready for fall with the addition of some nice soft throws. Plus, the added texture will give any room more depth and make your space feel like a million bucks. I’m partial to the faux fur blankets linked below because there’s just something so luxurious about them, but the fringed ones add some fun texture too!

4. Bring in allllll the fall scents.

NOTHING makes me more excited for fall than a good fall-scented candle. I get visibly giddy when Bath & Body Works brings out the fall three-wick candles, and that giddiness pretty much lasts through early December. There’s just something about snuggling up in a soft blanket and lighting a pumpkin-scented candle that screams fall to me. Fall scents are the single easiest way to make your home feel ready for the season. I can confirm that all of the fall candles I liked below smell incredible. The Harvest candle from Target has tons of rave reviews and I love the look of the amber jar. Bath & Body Works is killing it with fall candles in general this season, but Pumpkin Pecan Waffles and Leaves are the best ones in my opinion. DW home also has approximately a million pumpkin scents to choose from, but the Caramel Pumpkin is my personal favorite. And if you’re not into online shopping, most are available at TJ Maxx or Homegoods. If candles aren’t your thing, consider a fall stovetop poutporri – here’s a simple one you can make using ingredients you probably already have on hand.

5. Play around with warm tones and textures.

I typically like to keep my seasonal decor pretty simple and affordable, which means that I’m always trying to find items that bring in some warmth without being too seasonal. When preparing your home for the fall season, I recommend focusing on warm tones and textures. By adding elements such as wood, brass, or amber, you can instantly make your home feel warmer and cozier without amassing tons of decor that you’ll have to store at the end of the season. I’m obsessed with what Katie of Halfway Wholeistic did with the brass vase linked below and some fall florals. The amber vases are a steal and such an easy way to add warmth (and are great for holding eucalyptus or other greenery). A friend of ours gifted Darian and I the wood bowl and it’s quickly become one of my favorite items. The texture is great and it’s perfect for holding some mini white pumpkins from Trader Joe’s for a fall look that’s not over-the-top. And if you know me, you know I’m all about the baskets! Mixed tone baskets are perfect for fall and can easily double as blanket & throw pillow storage.

It can sometimes be tough to figure out how to decorate seasonally without being over-the-top, but with these tips you can easily add a fall feel to your home with minimal effort and a low budget! Do you have any subtle fall decor products that you love? Let me know in the comments!
